What are VALOR Academy Mentors?

An Academy Mentor within VALOR serves as a key figure in the learning and development branch of the organization. This role is pivotal in providing structured guidance, educational resources, and practical support for players of various skill levels. The ideal Academy Mentor is knowledgeable in at least three primary aspects of World of Warcraft and also dedicated to contributing actively to the VALOR community, both in-game and on the VALOR Discord. This role involves assisting with tickets, creating and curating learning content, and maintaining a positive and engaging environment for our community of players looking to improve their gameplay and understanding of the game.

Core Responsibilities:

1. Knowledgeable Support:
   • Maintain a high level of expertise in at least three primary topics of World of Warcraft, such as:
     • Class/Spec Optimization
     • Mythic+ Dungeons
     • Raid Strategy and Preparation
     • PvP (Arena, Battlegrounds, RBGs, Pet Battles)
     • Professions, Economy, and Gold-Making
     • Lore and Storyline
     • Questing and Leveling
     • Addons and UI
2. Educational Content Creation:
   • Develop, curate, and update comprehensive guides, walkthroughs, and video content for academy-related topics.
   • Collaborate with other Academy Mentors and department leaders to produce in-depth tools and resources that cater to different learning styles, including written guides, diagrams, infographics, and video tutorials.
   • Be willing to edit and review existing content to keep resources accurate and current.
3. Assistance and Support:
   • Be available to address tickets and direct inquiries from community members, providing in-depth explanations and support on requested topics.
   • Use effective communication skills to simplify complex topics, ensuring players of all skill levels can understand and apply the guidance.
   • Offer constructive feedback and personalized coaching to members who are seeking improvement.
4. Community Engagement:
   • Actively participate in the VALOR Discord channels, contributing to discussions, answering questions, and providing insights on relevant topics.
   • Engage regularly with academy-related threads and community events, fostering an inclusive, supportive, and growth-oriented environment.
   • Maintain a strong presence in-game, representing the Academy department and participating in guild activities, training runs, and collaborative content sessions.
5. Team Collaboration:
   • Work closely with the Academy Lead and other department staff to align academy content with the overall goals and strategies of VALOR GAMING.
   • Participate in academy meetings and planning sessions, providing input on new initiatives, player feedback, and program development.
   • Coordinate with other Academy Mentors to share knowledge and best practices, ensuring a cohesive and standardized mentoring approach.

Expectations:

1. Knowledgeable and Passionate:
   • Demonstrate a deep understanding of at least three primary aspects of World of Warcraft and maintain that knowledge with ongoing research and practice.
   • Approach the role with enthusiasm, displaying a genuine passion for helping others grow and succeed within the game.
2. Professionalism and Conduct:
   • Maintain a positive, patient, and professional demeanor at all times, whether interacting with community members, fellow mentors, or the broader VALOR team.
   • Uphold the values and vision of VALOR GAMING in all communications and engagements.
3. Content Production:
   • Create at least one new piece of content per month, such as guides, video tutorials, or infographics, that enhance the Academy’s learning library.
4. Availability:
   • Respond to tickets, guild invites and direct inquiries in a timely manner.
   • Allocate time for Academy-related activities, including content creation, Discord engagement, and mentoring.
   • Available at least once per month to assist with Community raids, keys, pvp or workshops.
5. Active VALOR Member:
   • Maintain a high level of activity within the VALOR Discord, contributing to conversations, assisting members, and participating in Academy-driven events and initiatives.
   • Be an active in-game player, participating in key content areas ensuring practical expertise and credibility.
6. Team Player:
   • Share knowledge and collaborate with other mentors to refine strategies, resources, and training approaches.
   • Be open to feedback, willing to adapt to changing departmental needs, and contribute ideas for Academy growth and improvement.
