Community Spotlight: Niightmaare
Hello, I go by Niightmaare in VALOR, but known in the gaming community as Pyye. The name Pyye came from my gaming community friends because I always chose Pyrelord as my character name, and played classes that specialized in fire most of the time. So in voice channel, it was “Pie” for short. I went with Pyye because it was always available. At some point, I just may transition to Pyye in the VALOR community as well.
I have been playing computer games since the 90s, if you all remember or have heard of King’s Quest, by Sierra, that is how I got my start. My Uncle would let me come over and sit in a chair next to him, watch him play games, and gobble up M&Ms, popcorn, crackers, or other snacks. Eventually, I was so hooked watching him game, I bought my own PC system. And then came Everquest… I started playing when it launched back in 1999 and ended up playing it off and on for 16+ years. For those that have not played it from the beginning, it is a shame, as that experience might not ever be captured quite like that again.
I have also played WoW off and on for 8 years or so, finding VALOR on my recent play through of Dragonflight. VALOR caught my eye because they were the only ones that filled out the Guilds of WoW thoroughly and completely, which showed they really cared about their community and were professional in their approach. Matter of fact, this ended up being completely true, to which I chose to support and become a VIP member. Where VALOR goes in the future, we go! It is exciting when you experience the growth and the professionalism that VALOR offers, and even more exciting see what is on the horizon for all of us involved. I am very grateful for all the hard work that goes into the progression here.
The wife (Cymber) and I reside in Austin, TX, and we have no kids but four fur babies (two dogs, two cats). I have been in the wine and spirits business for 35+ years and currently work for a winery. It really forced me into an appreciation of the finer things in life like food, travel and wine. I also love to cook and so does Cymber, so we spoil each other with good food then tend to watch a good TV series or movies. This is a very typical evening for us.
All of this said, I think it is super important to surround yourself with what makes you happy, even if your family or friends don’t understand it. For me, it is gaming, or developing games. Getting that immersion is super important to me and it allows my creative mind to release. Oh, and as you can tell from the picture, we tend to go all out at Renaissance Fairs as well!!!
Back in 2008, I developed a successful module series for Neverwinter Nights and organically had my own small following of like-minded gamers who appreciated my work. Currently, I also work for an indie gaming company as their world builder using Unity software. We are putting together a rather unique MMO, but this whole process takes dedication and lots of time! Unfortunately, this eats up a lot of the game time I used to spend gaming, but it is really important to me. Seeing the progress and everything come together (even if it is slow) is very rewarding and something I have always wanted to do. I have a creative side to me that is just off the charts, so if I don’t feed it somehow, I feel like it gets wasted. Developing a game satisfies this need tremendously. So as you can probably see, I have a lot on my plate but try to make it all work. Hopefully, I get a chance to say “hello” to a lot of you in the near future. Niightmaare has been in the VALOR community for a while and also attended Blizzcon with the group! It’s been great getting to know him, play games, and listen to his thoughts on various games and systems. His creativity shines through when he’s explaining how he would set up end game mechanics and progression for a bunch of different types of games.
